Meet Hannah

My name is Hannah Brooks, I'm 23 years old, and I've lived in Nashville for 5 years now. I've been overweight all my life, and in December, I decided to do something about it. On December 2nd, my mom sent me some pictures that were taken at Thanksgiving, and I couldn't believe my eyes. I could no longer deny, avoid, or ignore my size. I stepped on the scale, and that was the last day I would ever weigh 284lbs.

I started eating according to Weight Watchers, and I began doing cardio daily. I was able to lose 14lbs before finding LEAN Personal Training. I've been training with Blake Brown since the beginning of January, and I've lost an additional 37lbs, which brings me to a total of 51lbs. Training at LEAN has helped me to build muscle and shed fat even faster! I intend to continue my weight loss until I consider myself a healthy individual, and I hope to continue learning from Blake for as long as I can!

Blake's story

The first thing Hannah said to me when we met was "I want to loose 100lbs" to which I replied "That's an awesome goal that's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication... Let's do it!". When we first started training I was mostly interested in keeping her moving throughout our entire workout sessions to burn as many calories as possible while simultaneously keeping her heart rate elevated. As Hannah will attest to, this is easier said than done. For those of you who have never been severely overweight, it's hard to imagine what it feels like to have an extra 100lbs pounds to carry around. With this in mind, I created a fitness regimen for Hannah which revolved around performing multimuscular body weight exercises with and without the TRX (body weight suspension trainer). This allowed us to utilize her body weight to our training advantage.

The first few weeks Hannah was simply trying to survive the workouts. We started off slowly keeping the safety of her lower body joints in mind. Then, as Hannah's strength and stamina increased, so did the intensity of our workouts. Not only was she noticeably more agile and fit after just one month of training with me 3 times a week, but the biggest difference was her change in attitude! She went from dreading our workouts to walking into the studio smiling and chipper asking "So what are we doing today?!". We have since slowly progressed into free weight training and now use the body weight exercises for cardiovascular surges during our circuit training days. Besides training, another important factor to Hannah's success is that she started keeping a detailed food journal of everything she ate and would email it to me on a weekly basis. This helped her stay accountable for what she was eating. We also discuss what kind of physical activity and exercise she should be doing outside of the studio.

I am proud to say that since we started training 5 months ago Hannah has gone through a complete body transformation currently weighing 52lbs less than when she started! She is a shinning example of how consistent hard work and dedication pays off!
